The obverse features the fourth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. Introduced in 1998, the portrait is noted for its realistic and dignified character, showing Her Majesty wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.

On the reverse, Benedetto Pistrucci’s celebrated St George and the dragon design appears in exceptional detail. First used on the revived Sovereign in 1817, the scene has remained the defining image of the series for more than two centuries. On this larger Five-Sovereign denomination, the movement of the horse, the armour of St George and the drama of the dragon can be appreciated on an especially generous scale.

Struck in 22 carat gold to Proof standard, the coin weighs 39.94g and measures 36.02mm in diameter. Carefully prepared dies and polished blanks give the coin its characteristic Proof finish, with frosted design details set against reflective fields.

Independently graded PF70, this example represents the highest grade awarded by the grading service, indicating no post-production imperfections visible at five-times magnification.
