After sovereign production nearly ceased forever in 1819 the coin’s production resumed with vigour in 1820 and had a mintage of 931,944. Unfortunately, 1820 was the year George III’s reign ended, and so did this iconic design on the sovereign.
Thankfully it was revived for one year only in 2017 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the modern sovereign. 1820 is the most affordable date of the sovereign to get this special design but numbers are limited and this coin is very sought after.
