According to research conducted by the World Gold Council, trust is one of the major concerns for people who are considering investing in gold. As the most visually secure bullion coin in the world, Britannia could be the answer to those concerns.
Almost half of people (48%) considering gold as an investment said a lack of trust was a barrier to investing.

What the World is Saying About Gold
Having interviewed 18,000 people in countries around the globe, the World Gold Council analysed their comments to build up a detailed picture of the gold market. The insights from this huge sample showed that the primary concern for many is trust.
The headline finding from the World Gold Council’s research was that 48% of people considering gold as an investment reported that a lack of trust was a barrier to them making an investment, with this startling fact underpinned by further related findings.
The sample drawn from all significant gold markets around the world also revealed that 28% of people considering gold as an investment worried about buying fake gold, 21% were concerned about the purity of gold and 14% said they do not trust the businesses selling gold.
To ensure our Britannia remains a bullion coin people can trust, The Royal Mint decided to take a fresh look at the entire range. After a detailed research and development process, we introduced four advanced visual security features to Philip Nathan’s design.
First released on bullion coins in 1987, Philip Nathan’s design features Britannia presented with carefully chosen symbols – a shield for protection, an olive branch for peace and a trident for her connection to the sea. We took these elements and enhanced them with four security features that make it easier than ever to authenticate and liquidate Britannia bullion coins. The design changes make Britannia coins more difficult to counterfeit, leading to increased trust amongst investors and institutions.

“Britannia is one of our most iconic and enduring designs, so it was vital we retained the beauty of the coin whilst adding sophisticated new anti-counterfeit measures. By focusing on the natural reflection of the metal and using advanced new technology, we have created a unique and highly safe coin which gives customers complete confidence.”
